DAKIN , Ella Dakin

Ella Dakin, cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on January 25, 1935, in Melville, Saskatchewan, Ella lived a life defined by love, resilience, and unwavering devotion to her family.

Predeceased by her loving husband of 64 years, Doug, Ella leaves behind her children: John Dakin (Kim), Greg Dakin, and Dawn Marie Runstedler (John). She will be deeply missed by her grandchildren: Brianne Dakin and Graham Dakin; Lainie and Addison Spencer; Daniel and Emily Dakin; Ben Runstedler (Kyla); Rachel Carter (Jordan); Michelle Helder (Zack); and Mike Runstedler (Peyton).

She was dearly loved by her many great-grandchildren: Aiden and Owen Doyle; Everett Steve; James, Levi, Nicholas, and Charlotte Carter; Noah and Georgia Helder; and Jack Runstedler.

From the prairie fields of her childhood to the warm embrace of her family home, Ella carried with her a quiet strength and a heart full of grace. She was the kind of mother who made every scraped knee better, every heartbreak easier, and every triumph sweeter. Her love was the thread that held her family together—woven through every moment, every memory, every milestone.

Ella poured her heart into supporting her husband and raising her children, and in doing so, shaped lives filled with compassion, courage, and kindness. Her home was a sanctuary, her table always open, and her heart always full.

Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched and the love she gave so freely. She also leaves behind extended family and dear friends who will forever remember her warmth, grace, and unwavering love.

A special thank you to Ella’s primary care physician Dr. Kim Moore of Wellesley and the staff of Peaceful Meadows Retirement Home for their care and support.

A celebration of Ella’s life will be held on Wednesday, August 20, at W.G. Young Funeral Home (430 Huron Street, Stratford, Ontario). Visitation will begin at 1 pm, followed by a service at 2 pm. A reception for friends and family will follow.
