It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Nestor Dalmaridis, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and uncle, who departed this life on Thursday, May 15, 2025 at the age of 92.
Born in Thessaloniki, Greece, Nestor always had a mechanical mind. He recalled, as a child, cutting open a ball to see what mechanism caused it to bounce. As an adult, he studied to become a machinist. He served in the Royal Navy in Greece as a marine engineer mostly on a mine sweeper. He travelled the world with the Merchant Marines working as a diesel mechanic on the ships. He later emigrated to Canada and after a year, he returned to Greece to marry Maria Marinakis. He brought her to Canada and they began to raise a family.
Nestor was hard working. For many years he worked at CN Rail as a diesel mechanic and part time at Sears. When not working, he was passionate about fishing and embarrassing his wife Maria with an occasional serenade.
Nestor’s family had a reputation of being generous, with his grandfather literally giving the shirt off his back to help others. Nestor carried that tradition on, often seeking to help others where he could.
In his later years, Nestor faced the challenges of dementia. Even as memories faded, he remained strongly connected to his wife Maria and his children. His love for his grandchildren was still clear. After the passing of Maria, his memory became worse, perhaps as a way to cope with his loss.
Nestor leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and generosity. He is survived by his children Cryssa (Angelo) and Michael (Mignonne), as well as his grandchildren George (Rebecca), Demetri, Mark, Aidan, and Leah.
In lieu of flowers, donation to the Canadian Alzheimer’s Society will be greatly appreciated.
Visitation followed by a funeral service to honour Nestor’s s life will be held on Tuesday, May 20, at McEachnie Funeral Home in Ajax, Ontario. Family and friends are welcomed at 10:00 AM, followed by a service at 11:00 AM.
He may be gone from our sight, but his memory will be eternal through those he has left behind.
