DAS, Sajal Das

Passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 21, 2025, at Lakeridge Health Oshawa Hospital. Born on March 17, 1959, in Calcutta, India, Sajal was the eldest child of Dr. Anil Das and Sailaja Das. His early life took him across the world as his father’s medical career brought the family from India to England, and eventually to Trinidad—places that shaped Sajal’s character, broadened his perspective, and filled his youth with rich experiences.

It was in Trinidad that Sajal met the love of his life, Merle, at her high-school graduation. Their connection grew quickly and deeply, leading to their marriage in 1985. Three years later, following the birth of their first son, Mark, they moved to Canada in search of new opportunities and a bright future. Their journey as a young family took them through North York, Scarborough, and Ottawa before they finally settled in Ajax. Along the way, Sajal and Merle welcomed their two younger children—Ronjan, born in Ottawa in 1993, and their daughter, Shannon, born in Ajax in 1996.

Sajal earned his master’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of the West Indies (UWI) in Trinidad, and his professional path led him into the automotive world—a field in which he built a long and dedicated career, especially through his years with Mr. Lube. Known for his strong work ethic and determination, Sajal approached every responsibility with the same steady commitment he showed to his family.

Outside of work, Sajal was a man of many passions. In his younger days he loved golfing, fishing, and sports of all kinds, especially badminton and cricket. Whether he was competing, watching, or simply talking about the game, he brought an infectious energy to everything he enjoyed. And throughout his entire life—right up until the end—he found joy in playing cards, a pastime that brought him both relaxation and connection with the people he cared about.

Above all, Sajal will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud brother to his two younger sisters, Manisha and Uttara. He was strong-willed yet warm-hearted, hardworking yet playful, grounded yet adventurous. His presence filled every room with quiet confidence, and his love anchored his family through every chapter of their lives.

Sajal leaves behind a legacy of resilience, devotion, and deep affection. He will be profoundly missed by all who knew him, and forever cherished by those who loved him most.
