DAUPHINEE, Janet Elizebeth Dauphinee

Aged 74 years passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 23, 2025 surrounded by her loving husband of 45 years and her three beloved children.

Predeceased by parents Margaret and Victor Timmins of Sutton, Ontario and parents-in-law Scott and Evangeline Dauphinee of Stockdale, Ontario, Janet’s legacy of kindness will be carried on by those she leaves behind: husband and constant companion, David; children: Joshua (Julia), Sean (Courtney), and Meghan (Iraleigh Anderson); five treasured grandchildren: Lila, Miles, Caroline, Claire, and Rae; siblings: Jim (Doreen), Jill, Peggy (Paul Coates), Randy (Debbie); and her many nieces, nephews, dear friends, and neighbours.

Janet and David shared many years of love and friendship. Together, they raised three children with love, guidance, support, friendship, and humour. She was immensely proud of each of them and loved to hear news and receive photos of their growing lives.

When her children were young, Janet was a homemaker and this was her art. She created beauty from the ordinary and was rarely without a paint brush, a glue gun, a needle and thread, a crochet hook, or a batch of cookies. Her home was a safe haven for her children and their friends, who sewed Advent calendars for teachers, who loved to celebrate birthdays, and who had an endless well of patience and love. Later she would bring the same intensity of caring to the elderly over many years as a home care worker.

In their happy retirement years, Janet and David travelled together to see the world and to visit their children who had put down roots in various corners of the globe. They continued to camp and kayak, they became treasure hunters at auction houses, and they kept up with movie nights, book club, and tending Janet’s beautiful garden.

Christmas was Janet’s season and her collection of Santas, Christmas sweaters, ornaments, cookie cutters, and Christmas earrings was substantial. Janet loved to bake and share Christmas cookies with those she loved and her cookies plates were a thing of legend. Most of all, she loved that special magic that Christmas brings and it brought her immense joy to share this with her grandchildren.

As a grandmother, Janet was in her element. She was always ready with love, kindness, baked goods, and an activity they could share together. She could spend hours playing with buttons, gardening, doing crafts, watching sports games, or simply enjoying their company.

Janet was fiercely intelligent and impressively well read. She loved puzzles of all kinds, and was a formidable opponent at Scrabble. She never liked to be the centre of attention but she had a feisty spirit, she knew herself and what she liked. She taught her children confidence, how to love and be loved, how to be capable, and how to show kindness to others.

Janet left her mark on so many things – gifted jars of salsa and red pepper jelly, cookie plates, thoughtfully written cards and letters, baby blankets quilted or crocheted by hand, and any time she lent a listening ear to a friend or loved one. It is only fitting to leave you with her own words:

“It has been my pleasure to share what time we had on this earth. I’ve planted my roots and now I’m going to spread my wings and fly!”

– Janet Dauphinee

As per Janet’s wishes, there will be no funeral, but a party will be held in the future. In lieu of flowers, a donation could be made in Janet’s name to the London Public Library, or to a community Food Bank of your choosing.
