Peacefully, supported by her family, Nettie passed on June 11, 2025.
A devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, and fiercely proud Scot, Nettie made every room brighter with her presence and her well-timed, cheeky remarks. Predeceased by her beloved husband John Deas and her parents John and Catherine Houston, she is now reunited with them and her siblings John (Christine) and Rena (Bill).
She leaves behind her cherished sister Margaret (late Jim), and her deeply devoted family: children Beth (Dan) Wright of Chatham, Andrew (Alice) Deas of Scarborough, and Ann-Marie Deas (Brent Glasier) of Owen Sound; grandchildren Kerri (Dan), Danny, Katie (Drew), Andrea (Jeff), Breann (Greg), Samantha (Oliver), Matthew, and Michelle; and great-granddaughters Evelyn, Madi, and Ryleigh.
Nettie and John immigrated to Canada in 1975, a brave move that helped shape the generations to come. Her pride in her Scottish roots never faded. She was Scottish through and through.
She dedicated 25 years to volunteering at Outreach for Hunger, supported her church’s mission group, and worked 20 years with the Chatham-Kent Public Library. Nettie was kind, witty, and fiercely loyal. Her family was her joy—especially when guitars came out for a sing-song.
Visitation will be held at McKinlay Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham, on Thursday, June 12, 2025 from 6:00–8:00 p.m.. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 145 Victoria Ave, Chatham on Friday at 11:00 a.m.. Cremation to follow.
