Today we celebrate the life of Bill DeConkey. Bill passed from us on Sunday, May25, 2025 at his beloved cottage home, Itchy Foot Rest, on Trillium Lane, Clear Lake. Bill was 84.So loved by Shirley, his wife of 59 years; his daughter Shannon and son Tom; hisdaughter-in-law Barbara; and grandchildren Megan, Dylan, Silas, Riley, Mena, Madeline, and Mario.Bill was born in Toronto, December 12, 1940. Following the death of his beloved

brother, John in 1948, Bill moved with his parents, Muriel and Mel, to Sunderland, Ontario, where they ran a small restaurant/gas station. Bill made many friends there, eventually becoming captain of an Ontario Championship hockey team. He attended Brock District High School in Cannington, where he was a football and track star, winning many ribbons for his school. On his first date with Shirley, he was 19, she 15. He thought she was too young for him. Still he took her for a ride on his motorcycle, and the rest is history.

They were married in Brechin in 1966. Their daughter Shannon was born in 1969, and son Tom in 1970. Bill joined the Metropolitan Toronto Police Force in 1965. His police career included youth bureau, public affairs, fraud squad, and investigation of the famous Litton Industries bombing.

Manager with Ontario Legal Aid.

Bill and Shirley have enjoyed 25 years in retirement and travelled internationally. The trip of a lifetime was 6 weeks backpacking through the islands of French Polynesia and Easter Island. But their favourite place remains their cottage on Clear Lake, with so many loving relatives and friends.
