DEL COL, Elso Luciano Del Col Obituary

DEL COL, Elso Luciano – Passed away on September 30, 2015 at 77 years of age after a brave fight with cancer.

Leaving to mourn his loss is his wife of 48 years Susan (nee Rocheleau), only child Sonya Steinwender (Dan) and grandson Ben all of Halifax. Son of the late Ambrogio and Nella Del Col. Son-in-law of the late Milton and Clarice Rocheleau. Dear brother to Graziella Del Col (Gastone) of Italy. Brother-in-law to John Rocheleau (Joyce), Mary Peterson (Chuck) and Anne Rocheleau. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins in Canada and Italy.

At the age of 16, Ciano left Bannia, Italy to start a new life in Canada. He worked in construction and then went on to become a tool and die maker. He worked for 40 years at Nickleson Machine and Tool where he was the plant chairman of CAW Local 195. Ciano was a longstanding member and past president (1972) of the Fogolar Furlan Club of Windsor.

He retired early to enjoy the outdoors planting trees, hunting, tending to his garden and teaching Dan the son he never had his love of the Friulan culture, of making wine, salami and sausages. Nonno passed his love of classical music onto his grandson Ben.

Many thanks to the health professionals of the Windsor Cancer Clinic (Rita, Dr. Aoun and staff), his Paramed nurse Adrianna and team, PSW’s at St. Elizabeth (Kerry and team), staff of Hospice Windsor, HDGH (Tayfour campus) palliative care and Transition to Betterness for their outstanding care.

To all our family and friends (near and far), we thank you for your love and support during this difficult journey.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Transition to Betterness (Tayfour Campus) or Hospice of Windsor would be appreciated.

Respecting Ciano’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial visitation on Saturday, October 3 from 1-4 p.m at Families First, 3260 Dougall Avenue in Windsor, Ontario. Prayers and tribute at 3 p.m. Interment to follow.
