D’ELIA, Gino – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gino D’Elia, who departed this life at the Marotta Family Hospital on Saturday July 5, 2025 at the age of 71. Gino leaves behind his siblings Lillian (Angelo) Farinacci, Carm, Mario (Deanna), Peter, as well as his niece and nephews Nathan, Ashley, Alex, Lucas. He also is mourned by his aunt Vincenza and many cousins in Canada and Italy. He is predeceased by his son Bradley, his parents Antonio and Antonietta (nee Felice) D’Elia and his brother Vince.

Gino was born on January 11, 1954 in Cercemaggiore, Campobasso, Italy. His life was a testament to hard work, kindness and a deep appreciation for the simple joys. Gino forged a successful career as a carpenter and dedicated himself to his craft, serving as a supervisor at Newman Brothers for 40 years. He possessed a remarkable ability to visualize and execute, a talent that extended beyond the workshop. Known for his precision, Gino was a master of his trade, always able to measure and order the precise materials needed for any project.

Beyond his professional life, Gino was a man defined by his generosity and willingness to lend a hand. He was the cornerstone of his family, always ready to help with any project, big or small. This unwavering support and commitment to those he loved endeared him to all who knew him. Gino’s warm spirit and genuine desire to assist others left an indelible mark on the lives of those around him.

In his retirement, Gino embraced a life of exploration and leisure. He embarked on numerous adventures, travelling extensively across North America with his truck and trailer. He visited Cuba and returned to his homeland in Italy, revisiting the landscapes of his youth. Gino’s passion for life extended to a variety of hobbies. He was an admirer of vintage cars, and he enjoyed the meticulous care and preservation of these classic machines. He learned the art of winemaking, and found immense satisfaction in growing his own vegetables. In the summer months, he could often be found cycling through the scenic beauty of the Niagara Region, soaking in the warmth of the sun and the beauty of the countryside. He also enjoyed a cycling trip to Tuscany.

Gino’s legacy will be carried on by his family and the many lives he touched. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His kindness, generosity, and unwavering dedication to his family and craft will forever be remembered.

Thanks to his oncologist Dr. Qawi and the caring team at the Walker Family Cancer Centre, as well as the staff in the oncology department at the Marotta Family Hospital.

Friends are invited to join the family at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines, visiting Friday July 11, 2025 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. Vigil prayers will be held at 7:45 pm. A Funeral Service in celebration of his life will be held Saturday July 12, 2025 at 9:30 am at the funeral home, with the Rite of Committal to follow at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. In memory of Gino, memorial contributions may be made to The Niagara Health Foundation (Walker Family Cancer Centre), and would be appreciated.
