KORCHAK, Dmytro Korchak, Obituary
KORCHAK, Dmytro – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Dmytro on October 13, 2015 at the age of 92.
Beloved husband of the late Marta for 69 years. Cherished father of Tamara Connor (Jim), Luba Radke (Brian) and Taras Korchak (Beate). Adoring Dido of grand- children Joanna (Jeremy), Chris (Jen), Andrea, Whitney and great-grand- children Aiden, Poppy, Kara and Julia.
Fondly remembered by family in Ukraine. Dmytro was a longtime active parishioner and contributing member of the building fund of Holy Spirit Church and more recently a member of Ukrainian Church of the Resurrection. He was also a founding member of the Ukrainian Youth Association of Hamilton and a leader at both the local and national levels.
Dmytro’s whole focus in life was dedication to his family, his faith and his patriotism to country-both his homeland Ukraine and Canada.
He overcame many hardships in his life; forced to leave home as a teen, held in concentration camp, relocated his young family from a Displaced Persons’ Camp in Germany to a new life in Canada. His struggles continued through work experiences in the mines in Noranda, Quebec and 32 years at Stelco.
The final testament to his strength of character was his valiant struggle with dementia. He will be greatly missed.
Special thanks to the staff of Willowgrove Nursing Home – Old Mill for their exceptional care.
