DOBSON , Marlene Audrey Dobson
August 14, 1938 - August 2, 2025
Marlene Dobson passed away surrounded by loved ones on August 2, 2025, in her 87th year.
Predeceased by her beloved husband of 49 years, Ronald (Dob) Dobson, and her first husband, Ramon Sheffield.
She is also predeceased by her parents Gardiner and Audrey Ball; brothers Gerald (Marie) Ball and Bill (Lynda) Ball; and daughter-in-law, Wendy Sheffield.
Marlene was a devoted mother to Douglas Sheffield (Lynne Martichenko), and loving grandmother to Bradley Sheffield (Carly Wolff), and Rebecca Tassé (Alex). She was the cherished sister to John (Beth) Ball, Garnet (Joanna) Ball and Garfield (Sue) Ball, and a dear friend to Barry Benoit of Portland.
She was a beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews, with whom she shared a special bond and brought her great joy throughout her life.
Marlene worked at Rideau District High School for 34 years, retiring in 1993. It was there she met the love of her life, Ron Dobson. Together, they shared a rich life filled with travel, music, and joy – often playing and singing together, dancing whenever there was a good tune, and welcoming friends and family for their memorable cross-country ski and chili parties. Marlene remained deeply connected to the students and wider community throughout her life, always generous with her time and spirit.
Born and raised on a dairy farm, Marlene knew the value of hard work from an early age, and had a lifelong love of animals – especially rescuing dogs abandoned in the country, many of whom became cherished members of the family.
She was also a formidable card player – a sharp and strategic bridge partner, a lively euchre rival, and most recently, a keen newcomer to mahjong.
She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered as a loyal friend with a terrific sense of humor and an unforgettable laugh.
Friends will be received at the Scotland Funeral Home, 27 Main Street, Elgin on Wednesday August 13, 2025 from 10 o’clock until time of Memorial Service at 12 Noon, immediately followed by a reception at the Elgin Lions Club, 19 Pineview Drive, Elgin, Ontario from 1–4 pm.
In honor of Marlene’s memory, donations can be made to Rideau District High School Kick In For Kids Program or the Elgin Food Bank.
