It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tony Dojcak at the age of 92. Tony passed peacefully on May 11, 2025. He was born in The Pas, Manitoba to Andy and Annie Dojcak and raised in Flin Flon, where he developed a lifelong passion for sports and recreation.
Tony met and married Ethel Verna Nicholls, a young high school teacher, and together they raised a loving family. After welcoming their first child, Raymond Joseph, they moved to Peterborough, Ontario for Tony’s job in Recreation. Soon after, they welcomed Katherine Anne and later Patricia Eileen in Cardiff, Ontario. As the mining towns began to close, Tony moved his family once more to Burlington, Ontario, where he worked for over 33 years in the Recreation Department.
Tony was instrumental in the development of parks, facilities, and community programs. He served on multiple committees and contributed to the creation of the Waterfront Trail. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Tony was active in his church as Parish President and found joy in curling, badminton, gardening, and spending time at “Awesome Alley,” a cabin he built himself.
Tony is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Ethel (Nicholls), whom he affectionately called “his girlfriend.” Also survived by his children Ray (Raisa), Kathy (Helen), and Patty (Brian); grandchildren Jennifer, Matthew (Amalia), Ryan, Scott (Stephanie), Jordan, and Caleigh; and great-grandchildren Ayden, Logan, Gavyn, and Lincoln. He is also lovingly remembered by his extended family, nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
Predeceased by his parents Andy and Annie Dojcak, brother Victor, and siblings-in-law Vada (Ed), Olive (Neil), Peter, and Eloise.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of LaSalle Park Retirement Residence, OntarioHealth@Home, and Joseph Brant Hospital—especially the 5th floor Surgical Ward and Emergency Department—for their outstanding care.
A Celebration of Life for Tony will be planned in the near future. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Brant, Haldimand, Norfolk, Hamilton, Halton or The Canadian Cancer Society are greatly appreciated.
