SMYTH, Doris Ethel (Bell) Smyth, Obituary
SMYTH, Doris Ethel (nee Bell) – It is with great sadness that the family of Doris Smyth announce her passing on December 21, 2015.
Doris was born in London, England on August 21, 1920. She met her Canadian husband Robert Gardiner Smyth while he was stationed in England as a tank commander with the Ontario Regiment.
In 1945, Doris immigrated to Canada as a war bride and settled with her husband on Deloraine Avenue in Toronto where they raised their children; Carol, Linda and Robert.
The family had strong ties to Huron County where summers where spent on the Smyth farm near Dungannon.
Tragically, Robert died at the age of forty-one, and for whom Doris grieved until the day she died. Left to raise a young family on her own, Doris’s inner strength, unconditional love and devotion to her family turned her home on Deloraine into a rock of stability. She will be remembered by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren as gentle, generous, well spoken, quick witted and an elegant British lady to the very end.
Servcie will be held in Goderich, on Monday, December 28th. Doris will be laid to rest beside her husband Robert and daughter Carol in Toronto, on Tuesday, December 29th at 1:00 PM.
Memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society gratefully acknowledged .
