Dr. JAKYM, Orest Jakym

Passed away on January 27, 2026 at Scarborough Centenary Hospital, at the age of 71. Beloved husband of Anne for 48 wonderful years. Loving father of Crystal (David Hatcher) and Vanssa. Dear son of the late Maksim and Anna Jakym. Cherished brother of Mary (the late Terry Latta) and Alex (Rita). Dear brother-in-law of Steven Bernacki (Anna), Mike Bernacki (the late Christine), and the late Mary (Bob). Will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. For 45 years, he served his community in Whitby, as a trusted and compassionate chiropractor, helping countless patients heal and improve their quality of life. Outside of his practice, his happiest moments were spent at the cottage, his true happy place. There, he could often be found fishing, soaking in the quiet of the water, and enjoying the simple joys of nature. A devoted Cleveland Browns fan, he supported his team with unwavering loyalty through every season. He was an animal lover at heart and shared a special bond with his cats, who brought him endless comfort and companionship. In the kitchen, he was a master chef – cooking came naturally to him, never needing a recipe, just instinct, creativity, and love. Meals prepared by him were more than food; they were experiences shared with family and friends. Above all else, his family was his number one priority. He gave fully of himself, putting his heart into everything he did and into everyone he loved. His presence, guidance, and warmth will be deeply missed, but his legacy of kindness, dedication, and love will live on in the lives he touched. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026 from 4-8 p.m. with Panachyda at 7:30 p.m. at Armstrong Funeral Home (124 King St. E., Oshawa). A Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at 10 a.m. at St. George the Great Martyr Ukrainian Catholic Church.
