DREFKE, James “Jim” Victor Drefke
May 31, 1943 - May 30, 2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Jim Drefke at the age of 81, on May 30, 2025, one day shy of his 82nd birthday. He passed at Hospice Renfrew, with his loving wife Vera (Sell) by his side.
Jim is survived by his brother Carl, his stepsons Stephen Jackson and Andrew Jackson, and will be dearly missed by his step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including Kealie and Kian Brennan, who are heartbroken by the loss of their beloved grandpa and “Grandpa G.G.”
Jim was predeceased by his parents Eitle and Catherine Drefke, stepdaughter Brenda Brennan, brother-in-law Vern Sell, and sister-in-law Marilyn Sell.
Jim had a passion for hockey and played the sport as a young boy, often scoring many goals. He worked with Tony Zommers in the building trades, enhancing his carpentry and plumbing skills while acquiring his plumbing license. He and Vera also owned the Bonnechere Theatre building in Eganville, which they cherished as part of the town’s history.
In 1985, Jim and Vera opened a furniture and appliance store, where Jim enjoyed making deliveries. His voice became famous in the store’s commercials, saying, “There goes Jimmy with another load of furniture,” which always made him laugh.
After retiring and selling the store in 2004, Jim and Vera traveled the world. Some of their favorite destinations included Ireland, Italy, Hawaii, and Alaska, but their most memorable trip was a two-month “great American road trip,” which covered 46 states. Jim also treasured their time in Florida during the winters, spending 13 wonderful years there with friends.
Jim loved hunting, fishing, and deep-sea fishing with friends in the Gulf of Mexico. These memories will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
A special thank you to the staff at Hospice Renfrew for their compassionate care. The family is deeply grateful for the support received from friends, family, and the medical team that allowed Jim to remain at home for so long.
In keeping with Jim’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and a private family gathering will be held. Those wishing to make a donation in his memory are invited to consider Hospice Renfrew. Tributes, condolences, and donations may be made online at www.zohrfuneralhome.com.
