DROUIN, Jean-Guy Drouin
September 26, 1934 - September 1, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Jean-Guy Drouin on September 1, 2025, just shy of his 91st birthday. Guy passed peacefully, surrounded by love.
He is survived by his devoted wife Claudette (née Lalonde), with whom he shared 65 wonderful years of marriage. Guy was the cherished father of Alain (Kerry), Luc (Susan), and Angèle (Rob). He was a proud grandfather to Danielle (Jeffery), Nolan, Emilie (Joey), Laura (Baylianne), Megan, Madeleine, Calum and Sarah. He was the son of Honoré Drouin and Simone Lussier. He is predeceased by his brothers: Fernand, Rhéal, Marcel, Roger, and Serge, and his sisters: Jeanette, and Gisèle.
He dedicated almost half of his life teaching grade 4 students à l’ École Nativité. Some days it felt like he had taught and had an impact on half the city of Cornwall. Not a negative word was ever whispered or said about « Maître Drouin ». He was « cool » and loved and respected by his students. He was the lone male teacher and as such infused a strict but unique teaching style. He was known for keeping pet garter snakes in his classroom, which often escaped their aquarium much to the dismay of his fellow female colleagues. He created many floor hockey tournaments with his students, often pitting him against his wife Claudette and her Jean XXIII team.
He was an avid camper and had a strong desire to explore Canada with his three children from PEI all the way to the Rockies. An ambitious endeavor pre smart phones and GPS.
He was an avid HABS fan! His favourite player was, of course, Guy Lafleur!
In his retirement, he enjoyed golfing in the summer. Chasing that ever elusive second hole in one after his first at Summer Heights. While in the winter, his sport was curling. He excelled at it and won many a bonspiel.
Guy was an easy guy to like; he loved life. He had endless energy and was always able to easily connect with children of any age. He had no problem following the grandchildren: from roller coaster rides, tower of terror drops to zip lining high above river beds. He hiked the hardest of paths to the top of Mont Tremblant at the young age of 80.
He loved his children and his grandchildren. Nothing made him happier than spending the day with his family. He doted on his grandchildren when he could, whether it was letting them paint his toes with purple nail polish or passionately teaching them French folk songs. Papa used to make their day. He and Claudette made an indomitable pair, and we were blessed to have had him as long as we did.
Visitation will take place Monday, September 22nd, 2025, from 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm at Wilson Funeral Home, 822 Pitt Street, Cornwall, for those who wish to connect and remember Guy.
