DURFY, Ruby Agnes Durfy
August 2, 1942 - March 2, 2026
Peacefully at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital on Monday, March 2, 2026, at the age of 83.
Loving mother of Kim (Blair) and Sue (Andrew). Proud grandmother of A.J. [Courtney], Amanda (Sam), Lukas (Willis), and Jay.
Survived by her brother Art (Ruth). Predeceased by her siblings Ken (late Helen), Howard (late Annalea), Joyce (late Maynard), Don (Vera), and Phyllis (late Keith).
Mom was born and raised on a farm near Edwards, Ontario. Ruby enjoyed a 36-year career with the federal government. During this time, she had the opportunity to work in various departments and held different positions throughout the years.
She obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy/Religion from Carleton University. Her faith was very important to her.
Upon her retirement, Mom kept busy—never one to sit still, she regularly travelled on hiking tours around the world and attended yoga classes. She volunteered as a reading buddy at the local elementary school and generously gave her time to the Anglican Church over the years at Christ Church, Aylmer; St. Luke’s Table; and Christ Church Cathedral in Ottawa. Ruby also volunteered for many years with the Alzheimer Society. Mom had deep affection for her extended family and was always there to help when needed.
Ruby’s family would like to thank the staff at Extendicare Northridge, as well as the nurses and Dr. Gumber on Floor 5C at OTMH, for their compassionate care.
A quiet Celebration of Life will be held in Ottawa in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Alzheimer Society of Canada would be appreciated.
Dementia is a devastating disease, and the family hopes that continued research will one day bring a cure.
