McKITRICK, Eleanor (nee RICHARDSON) McKitrick

It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Eleanor McKitrick in her Etobicoke home, on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, in her 102nd year.

Eleanor was predeceased by Bill, her husband for 67 years. Mother to Sara and Marni (Louis).

Grandmother to Emma (Robert) and Claire; and great-grandmother to Henri.

Predeceased by her parents, Clephane and Marion (nee McCollum); and sister, Rosanne (William).

Eleanor graduated in 1943 from University of Toronto Physical and Health Education, and Ontario College of Education in 1944.

She first taught in high schools in northern and western Ontario, and then several schools in Toronto after WWII, until 1975. She studied and practiced good nutrition before it was ever popular.

She was physically active daily throughout her life, playing tennis, badminton and golf in the summer, and skating, skiing and curling in the winter.

She particularly loved spending time at the cottage in Haliburton, with her family swimming and canoeing. She was a longtime member of the University of Women’s Club, and her beloved book club. Throughout their lives, Eleanor and Bill travelled extensively around the world, often experiencing countries off the beaten track.

Eleanor had a long and rich life, and will be greatly missed. The family would like to thank Eleanor’s team of personal caregivers, especially Molly.

As per Eleanor’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
