Jean Helen Elyea (née Gormley) passed away peacefully on April 18, 2025, at Bowmanville Hospital, surrounded by people who loved her dearly.
Beloved wife of nearly 65 years to Alvin. Cherished mother of David (Peggy), Helen (Gaetan), and Steven. Treasured grandmother to Nicole (Nick) and Janine (MacKenzie), and proud great-grandmother to Nixon and Natalia.
Jean was the loving sister of the late Winnie Gormley and the devoted daughter of the late Jean and Luke Gormley.
At age 24, Jean courageously left her hometown of Edinburgh, Scotland, traveling by ocean liner to Montreal and beginning a new chapter in Canada as a nurse in Hamilton. What was meant to be a brief adventure became a fulfilling life filled with family, friendships, and enduring love.
Jean loved a good laugh, British mysteries, chocolate, tea, and a wee rye. Her Scottish pride always shone through, and her generosity, thoughtfulness, and warm spirit made her truly one of a kind.
In accordance with Jean’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life will be held this summer to honour her memory and legacy.
Jean will always be missed and loved by all whose lives she touched.
