YATABE, Emiko “Amy” –
July 27, 1925 – June 20, 2023
Emiko “Amy” Yatabe (née Kitagawa) peacefully passed away on June 20, 2023, at Bethany Lodge.
Much- beloved wife of the late Masao for almost 71 years.
Dearly loved and survived by her children, Wayne (Karen), Heather and Sharon Sisti (Ron); and by sisters-in-law, Polly Kitagawa (late Kit), Marnie Hirano (late Gus) and Lydia (late Minoru).
Loving grandmother to Kyle (Michelle) and Ryan Sisti (fiancée, Kit); and great-grandmother to Danielle Zebeski. Aunt and great-aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her parents, Tsuneya and Yae Kitagawa; brothers and sisters-in-law, Eiji and Kazuko Yatabe, Koto and Terry Adachi, Yoshiko and Jerry Kiyonaga, Phil and Lorraine/Irene Yatabe, Tom and Roe Yatabe; and her nephew, William Yatabe.
Amy loved having family and friends around her. She never missed an opportunity to thank people. Her sweet, gentle, caring and patient nature was valued by all who knew her.
Simply stated, Amy was this wonderful human being. We want to thank Bethany Lodge staff for warmly welcoming and caring for our mother and making her last days comfortable and peaceful.
We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Bethany Manor staff and residents for the tremendous care and friendship they extended to her during her years at the Manor. Many thanks to Leanne and the other PSWs who provided her with wonderful care and companionship.
Visitation from 1:00-2:00 p.m., and a Celebration of Amy’s Life at 2:00 p.m. with a reception to follow will be held at Highland Funeral Home Scarborough Chapel, 3280 Sheppard Ave. East, on Saturday, September 30, 2023.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Bethany Lodge, the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
