Ernest Fred Dambrowitz

He passed peacefully in hospice with family by his side in the early hours of Sunday, December 14, 2025, at the Timmins and District Hospital, which he helped build. Although we all knew him to be strong, determined, and stubborn, he ultimately succumbed to a short battle with an aggressive cancer.

Fred was born June 7, 1944, and raised in Matheson by his parents, Ernest and Jessie Dambrowitz (née Graham).

Fred is survived by his daughter, Annette Rondeau (Roger); his son, Ernest Fred Dambrowitz Jr. (Chantal); and Pupa to his grandchildren, Alexander (Julien) Rondeau, Samuel Rondeau, Ernest Russell Dambrowitz, Thomas Fred Dambrowitz, and Gabriel John Dambrowitz as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his siblings, Ottily (late Jim) Andrews, and Ivan (Cecilia) Dambrowitz, and is survived by his brothers and sisters, Sylvia (Mike) Milinkovich, John (late Louise) Dambrowitz, George (Helen) Dambrowitz, Georgina (Doug) Richardson, Ted (late Gisele) Dambrowitz, Rev. Lilian (Gordon) Roberts, and Catherine (Colin) McChristie.

Growing up and working on the family farm was formative, shaping Fred’s lifelong love of building. He frequently lent his skills to help family with renovations, constructing houses, barns, garages, and even built a camp of his own, which he deeply loved sharing with his children and grandchildren.

Respecting his wishes, cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 19, 2025, at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew’s United Church, 452 Fifth Avenue, Matheson, Ontario, with Reverend Lillian Roberts officiating. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted with LESSARD Funeral and Cremation Centre.

In lieu of flowers, Fred requested that expressions of sympathy be made by supporting Carley’s Smile from Above Foundation in honour of his late great-niece, Carley Dambrowitz. “Carley’s Smile From Above” is a foundation dedicated to supporting those facing fertility struggles and obstacles.
