Franklin Dennis Delano Evelyn
September 6, 1952 – March 21, 2025
In loving memory of Franklin Dennis Delano Evelyn, who passed away peacefully in Oshawa on March 21, 2025, at the age of 72, surrounded by loved ones, following an extended illness over the last five years of his life.
Dennis was born on September 6, 1952, in Georgetown, Guyana. His late mother, Alma, named him in honour of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. From a young age, Dennis embraced responsibility, assisting with tailoring contracts, supporting his sisters, and working in government bookkeeping. He emigrated to Canada in 1972, where he married Karen Shadd and raised four daughters, building a full and meaningful life rooted in love, dedication, and hard work.
A passionate and award-winning Insurance Professional, Dennis spent over two decades in the industry. He was well known for his willingness to lend a helping hand—whether through volunteering at cultural clubs, offering his skills in building and repairs, or providing insight and support in planning community events. His vibrant personality and love for music, politics, technology, and the Toronto Maple Leafs left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
He is lovingly remembered by his daughters Denise (Joseph), Daena (Marcin), Genna (David), and Kara (Meghan), and his grandchildren Fatimé, Ella, Jocelyn, Cliff, and Cassidy. He is also remembered by the mother of his children, Karen, and by his many siblings including Pamela, Jean, Cheryl, and Edlyn. Dennis was predeceased by his parents Edgar and Alma, and siblings Esmee, Edgar II, Elsa, Lynette, and Ingrid. His legacy continues through his extended family and many friends who will miss his laughter, generosity, competitive spirit, and creative energy.
A memorial celebration of Dennis’ life will be held this summer. Further details will be shared with family and friends.
