FARKAS, Irene Farkas
May 4, 1943 - February 17, 2026
she passed away peacefully on February 17, 2026, at Strathmere Lodge in Strathroy, Ontario. She is now reunited with her beloved husband, Frank (2025).
Irene was the cherished mother of Susan Coleman (Glenn), Frank Farkas Jr. (Annette), and Sidonia Woolley (Terry). She was a proud grandmother to nine grandchildren, and was predeceased by her grandson Matthew Farkas (2024). Irene was also blessed with eleven great‑grandchildren, and she will be fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her parents and siblings—Mary and Sandor Gegeny, Alexander Gegeny, and John Gegeny—Irene is survived by her dear sister Jolanda (Julie) Pollard of Oshawa, Ontario.
Born in Windsor, Ontario, Irene learned the value of hard work early in life. She grew up on a tobacco farm in Mt. Brydges, and in 1960, she married Frank, beginning a lifelong partnership rooted in dedication and family. She later worked on the Cipu family farm in tobacco before spending many years at Tender Tootsies in Glencoe, where she remained until her retirement from factory life.
Irene embraced life with a spirit of adventure. She loved the outdoors—snowmobiling through winter trails, riding her motorcycle under the warm summer sun, and enjoying countless camping and fishing trips with her family. These moments created treasured memories that will be held close forever. She was also an enthusiastic hockey fan and found joy in reading whenever she had a quiet moment.
A long‑time member of the Rodney Legion until its closure, Irene later joined the Rodney Lions Club, where she enjoyed the camaraderie, community involvement, and friendships that came with being part of these organizations.
In 2021, Irene became part of the Strathmere Lodge family. She was active in many aspects of the home and participated in various committees until she was no longer able. Her presence, kindness, and determination were felt by all who knew her there.
Irene will be remembered for her strength, her independence, her love of family, and her zest for life. Her legacy lives on in the stories shared, the memories cherished, and the generations she helped shape.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the many staff members at Strathmere Lodge who cared for Irene with compassion. A special thank‑you is also extended to Susan at Arn Funeral Home for her support.
There will be no visitation or funeral. A private interment for Irene and Frank will take place at a later date at Rodney Cemetery.
God’s Garden
God looked around his garden
And found an empty place,
He then looked down upon the earth
And saw your tired face.
He put his arms around you
And lifted you to rest.
God’s garden must be beautiful
He always takes the best.
He knew that you were suffering
He knew you were in pain.
He knew that you would never
Get well on earth again.
He saw the road was getting rough
And the hills were hard to climb.
So he closed your weary eyelids
And whispered, “Peace be thine”.
It broke our hearts to lose you
But you didn’t go alone,
For part of us went with you
The day God called you home.
