FESIAK, Mike Fesiak
January 25, 2026Our beloved father, grandfather and friend, Mike Fesiak, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 25, 2026 at the age of 91. Mike was born in 1934 in the Ukrainian village of Dobra, located in present-day Poland. Despite unthinkable early hardships – including the outbreak of WWII, the death of his brother Dmitro at Auschwitz in 1943, and the murder of both his parents in 1945 when he was only 10 years old – Mike was blessed with a joyous and long life, and he was appreciative, humble and gracious until his final moments. To Mike, his greatest blessing was his wife Anna, who passed away on May 9, 2021, as well as his three children, Alex, Andrew and Lesya, and his four grandchildren, Sonya, Matthew, Sophia and Damien.
After emigrating to Canada in the late 1950s to rejoin his only surviving family member (his oldest brother Karl), Mike met Anna in Toronto, and they married in 1967. At that time, Mike was a licensed barber, and he owned his own barbershop in Toronto until 1968, when he and Anna moved to Ajax to raise their family. Mike lived with Anna in Ajax for 54 years, until her passing. He was an employee of the Chrysler Trim Plant in Ajax from 1968 until his retirement in 1999. That same year, he embarked on his third career, and his greatest passion – beekeeping! For nearly 25 years, Mike’s friends and family were regularly gifted jars of his delicious honey. One of Mike’s lesser-known talents was his innate musical ability. Despite having received no formal training, Mike could pick up and play a beloved Ukrainian folksong on any musical instrument (and he always kept a harmonica on his bedstand). Mike will be deeply missed by his family, friends and neighbours. He was known for his integrity and loyalty, his ceaseless energy and work ethic, and his unique personality and sense of humour. He will never be forgotten.
Please join with the family at Armstrong Funeral Home, 124 King Street East, Oshawa for Visitation on Wednesday January 28th from 6pm to 8pm with Panachayda at 7pm. Funeral Services will take place at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 31 Bloor Street East, Oshawa on Thursday January 29th at 10am, Followed by Interment at Erskine Cemetery in Pickering.
