FITZGERALD , Edith “Babs” Lillian (Hunt) Fitzgerald
August 16, 1926 - July 24, 2025
Passed away peacefully at her home in Uxbridge, Ontario on July 24, 2025. Babs was 98 years old and just shy of her 99th birthday.
Babs was born in Toronto to Ada “Spot” and Alfred T. Hunt “Bobby” on August 16, 1926. She attended Bishop Strachan School and got her religion at Grace Church On the Hill. At school she was active in hockey, basketball, lacrosse and making some life-long friends. After The War, she married John “Bud” Fitzgerald and after time in Hamilton, Babs and Bud moved to Willowdale where they enjoyed bowling, badminton and bridge and began to raise a family of three: John Howard now of Ottawa, Robert Desmond now of Georgetown and Janice Ann now of Uxbridge.
The family moved to 22 Vesta Drive in Toronto to the house in which Babs grew up. As a dog lover, she raised three dogs as well as two well trained budgies. While at 22 Vesta, Babs was involved with the Big Sisters of Toronto. In retirement Babs and Bud moved to Uxbridge where Babs joined Uxbridge Cottage Hospital Auxiliary, which she served on for over 40 years, and St. Paul’s Anglican Church. As well, they continued to play bridge and golf. On her daily walks around the neighbourhood, Babs always carried a pocketful of dog biscuits and distributed them among her canine friends. Babs and Bud were recognized and received an Ontario Volunteer award for 15 years of service. Babs also received a Lifetime Membership Award in 2011 for 25 years service to Community Care Durham.
Babs is predeceased by her husband Bud in 2009, her brothers Howard (1944) and Roy (2016). She leaves behind her sons John (Elisabeth) and Robert (Sally) and daughter Janice. Five grandchildren Amy of Grimsby, Tobin (Serena) of Tampa FL, Kaelan (Jason) of Tampa, FL.; Tyler of New York City and Kade (Sarah) of Milton as well as three great grandchildren Rory of Tampa, FL, Abel and Evelyn of Tampa, FL.
