Sadly, we announce the passing of Tom, in the early morning of February 9, 2026. Tom is now re-united with his cherished wife, Marnie (nee Schnurr).
Beloved father to Daniel, Douglas (predeceased), Catherine, Bradley (Kathy), MaryLynn (predeceased Al), Joanne, Laurie (Tom), and Theresa.
Predeceased by his parents, James and Ethel Flanagan. Predeceased by sisters; Bridget, Maureen, Cecilia, Patricia and Madeline. Survived by sisters; Kathleen Kolbec (Gary), Rosalene Rosicki (Mike) and brother-in-law, Larry Schnurr (Sharon).
Proud grandfather to 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his grandson, Douglas James Flanagan.
As a young soldier, Tom served in the Korean War from 1951-1953. He married the love of his life in 1954, began a 40+ year career working for Stelco in Hamilton and raised 8 children with Marnie.
As a devoted Roman Catholic, Tom was an active member of the Stoney Creek Knights of Columbus (4th Degree), supporting their charity work. Second to his family life, Tom appreciated his lifetime membership at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #622 in Stoney Creek. There, he collaborated with fellow veterans, selling poppies, raising funds, and enjoying their social time together.
Over the past 3.5 years, Tom received exemplary nursing care, living at Macassa Lodge in Hamilton. Our family is grateful for the kind; compassionate care Tom received from the wonderful “C1W” healthcare team.
In honour of Tom’s 92nd birthday, a Funeral Mass will be celebrated on February 23rd at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Stoney Creek. Friends are welcome to a luncheon following the mass. A private interment will be held at a later date at Our Lady of the Angels Cemetery.
