FORMICA, Gilda Formica

Passed away peacefully in her 87th year at her home, surrounded by family, on January 8th, 2026. She is survived by her devoted husband of 64 years, Settimio; her five children; Laura (Joe), Renata (Frank), Marie (Lori), Nina (Dino), and Gianni; her grandchildren: Brandon, Blake (Victoria), Lawrence (Daniela), Amanda, Joshua, Lucas, Kayla, Victoria, and Sophia; and her great-grandson, Nolan. She is now reunited with her cherished father and mother, Canzio and Teresa, her beloved brother Aldo, and her deeply missed granddaughter Samantha.

Gilda and Settimio immigrated to Canada from Calabria, Italy in 1967 with three children, a few pieces of luggage, and a strong desire to create for themselves a better life; something she did proudly over the last 58 years in Cambridge, Ontario.

Affectionately known as ‘Gigi,’ Gilda had an unmatched zest for life and found beauty and enjoyment in the simple things. If she wasn’t in her kitchen or tending to her flowers, which she took so much pride in, she could often be found enjoying a warm summer’s day on her front porch surrounded by family and friends.

Gilda had the uncanny ability to make people feel loved. With just a few words, a smile, or the simple touch of her hand a stranger often became family. Her unique expressions and distinctive accent will be remembered fondly by all who knew her. She was tenacious and witty and could make people laugh with just a glance or word.

Though small in stature, her bravery and strength were immense. When faced with the challenges of her illness, Gilda remained brave, continuing to shine brightly in her role as Nonna. She will be greatly missed, but we are comforted by the faith and hope that we will one day be together again.

Resting at Corbett Funeral Home, 95 Dundas St. N, Cambridge, where family and friends will be received on Sunday January 11, 2026, from 5-8p.m. Rosary will be recited at 8p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, 210 South St., Cambridge, on Monday January 12, 2026, at 11a.m. Cremation will follow.

As an expression of sympathy, donations made the Arthritis Society of Canada would be greatly appreciated by the family.
