Gladys was the loving Aunt of many nieces & nephews and great nieces & great nephews. She had many close friends that she adored & loved spending time with. Gladys had a very special boyfriend “John Smithers” who she met 13 years after our father passed away. John adored our mother and treated her with great kindness. They loved to travel, listen & dance to old country music, and spend time together. John predeceased Gladys in June 2022.
Gladys lived her whole life in the North Augusta area. She met Lawrence when she was 15 years old and married him on September 12, 1964. They raised their 3 children at their beautiful home on County Road 15 between North Augusta and Algonquin. They put a pool in their back yard in 1981 and shared many pool parties, bbq’s, baseball games and horseshoe tournaments with many family, friends and cherished neighbours.
Gladys’ first job was being a Bell Operator, then worked at Automatic Electric, followed by being a very loved Supervisor at ComPAS, and then proudly left to pursue her passion of Cutting Hair & Styling and graduated
with Honours in St. Lawrence College’s Hair Dressing Course which lead to her operating a successful business in her home until she retired in 2005.
Aside from her love of family & friends, Gladys was known all over Canada & the USA for her famous Butter Tarts. She made thousands of butter tarts and every single one was devoured and left everyone who ever tried one – waiting for her next batch. We considered her the Queen Of Butter Tarts!
Family & friends may pay their respects at the Irvine Funeral Home “Roselawn” at the Maitland Site, 2451 County Road 15, on Saturday November 15, 2025, from 12noon until 2pm.
