FUERD, Jean Fuerd

With love and gratitude for a life well-lived, we share the passing of Jean “Nana” Fuerd on Sunday, July 6th, 2025, at Oak Ridges Hospice in Port Perry. Born in Toronto in 1925, Jean was just shy of her 100th birthday—a milestone she approached with grace, humour, and a signature glass of pinot grigio in hand.

Jean was the proud mother of two daughters, Cathie and Sharon (Henry), and the devoted grandmother of Kelly, Jenny (Gus), and Tim (Stacy). She cherished her four great-grandchildren—Tyler, Payton, Morgan, and Nicolas—who were truly the lights of her later life. Her love for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was unconditional and filled with joy.

A lifelong dog lover, Jean was predeceased by many cherished family companions—most notably Brandy and Sugar—who held a special place in her heart. Her home was always filled with warmth, laughter, and the quiet shuffle of paws on the floor.

Jean had a love of reading that kept her curious and sharp, and in her later years, she discovered a joyful talent for painting—adding colour and creativity to her days and to the lives of those around her.

Though a lifelong (and long-suffering) Maple Leafs fan, Jean often said the team didn’t deserve to represent the city she loved. After this year’s playoff run, she was more than happy to give away her Mitch Marner jersey—one of the few things she parted with gladly.

Jean’s final decade at the Port Perry Villa was among her happiest. The friendships, care, and community she found there brought her deep contentment, and she was endlessly grateful to those who made it feel like home. Special thanks go to Amy, Shari, Laura and the phenomenal staff for making her feel like family.

Ever the social butterfly, she remained a keen observer of fashion and design, and could always be counted on for good conversation, a second glass of wine and some advice—solicited or otherwise.

Please join us in celebrating Jean’s remarkable life and birthday at the Port Perry Villa (15987 Simcoe St, Port Perry) on August 9th from 1–3pm, on what would have been two days before her 100th birthday. All who knew and loved her are warmly welcome.
