It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dorothy May Funnell (Kane) on Monday May 19, 2025, at Kingston Health Sciences Centre, she was in her 95th year.

Born in Gananoque, Ontario to Gordon and Edith Kane on July 6, 1930. Dorothy was the last surviving member of her family. She was predeceased by four brothers and one sister.
She will fondly remembered by her nephew Bill and Lynne Funnell of Gananoque, and by her cherished niece Janette Wheeler and George Saunders of Lyndhurst, Ontario.

Dorothy was the loving companion of the late Mr. Freeman Franklin. They were blessed to find love later in life, and shared many cherished memories. They danced right til’ the very end. Dorothy was welcomed into our family with open arms and quickly became a loved member, our beautiful memories will last a lifetime. She will be profoundly missed by Robert and Donna Franklin of Kingston, Ontario, Debbie and Clifford Carter of Cape Breton and Shelley Franklin of Kingston. Dorothy will be missed by many nieces, nephews and Life Long Friends.

Dorothy was predeceased by her late husband, William (Bill) Funnell of 56 years. Together they built their dream home on the river, and shared a full life of love and travel. Dorothy was a proud and dedicated member of the Ladies Auxiliary, of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 92, of Gananoque, Ontario. She enjoyed the camaraderie of darts and bowling, and gave of her time generously for more than forty years. She was always ready to kick up her heels whenever the music started, being the first one on the dance floor. May she rest in peace.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 23, 2025 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Tompkins Funeral Home, 63 Garden Street, Gananoque, ON. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. at Tompkins Funeral Home, Gananoque. Interment will follow at Gananoque Cemetery. A reception to follow at the Royal Canadian Legion.

We send a heartfelt thank you to the Emergency Department and Connell 9 Nurses and Doctors for your loving, compassionate care of Dorothy. A special thank you to the staff at Cataraqui Heights Retirement Residence, Memory Care Floor. Thank you for everything you did for Dorothy, your kindness, empathy and attentiveness have been appreciated. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 92, Gananoque, ON.
