GARIN, Rosaline Jacinto garin
February 18, 1980 - October 20, 2025
Born on February 18, 1980, in Laguna, Philippines, Rose Garin went to be with her Lord on October 20, 2025, at the Kelowna General Hospital, surrounded by family and friends who had been firmly advised not to be sad or to cry. She was forty-five, which she would have called “still young enough to dance to R&B, but old enough to sit down after.”
She is survived by her partner of five years, Michelle Galang, whose good humour matched her own; her siblings, Mark (Maychel) and Marilyn (Benjamin); and her nephew, Kean Carl. She will also be dearly missed by Michelle’s children, Myls and Myx, who lovingly referred to Rose as “Dada”. She was predeceased by her parents, Carlito & Yolanda, whom she loved deeply and spoke of often.
Rose was, by general agreement, a “jolly” person. Her cheer could make even a quiet afternoon seem like a joyous occasion. She was a good leader, although her method was unconventional – she preferred laughter over lectures. She liked to sit by the mooring on Lake Okanagan, where she claimed to think about life, though it was suspected she was mostly admiring the view.
She came to Canada in 2022 as a tourist, for a six-month stay in Grande Prairie, to visit family. Like many visitors before her, she fell in love with the place, or perhaps with its people, and decided to get a work visa. She joined SunRype in Kelowna, where she worked with her usual blend of diligence and cheer, and was soon known by everyone simply as Rose.
Her pleasures were simple but pursued with enthusiasm: making TikTok videos that never failed to amuse and talking about the trips she planned to take someday. She wanted no tears, only smiles, which was typical of her; an optimist who left no room for gloom, even at the end.
