GIMBLETT , Stephen George Gimblett

It is with deep sadness and sorrow that we announce the unexpected passing of Stephen George Gimblett on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at the Peterborough Health Care Center Hospital.

Stephen was born on December 28, 1951 in Toronto. A husband to Carmen Chemello for 51 years; a gentle and caring father to Jordana; a giving and supportive father to Justin; an easy going father-in-law to Peter Kourtis; a doting grandfather to Hollis and Heath; a dedicated brother to much loved Paul (Christine). He was a good humored uncle to Danielle, Jennifer (Colin), Matthew (Stephanie) and Caroline (Scott, Callie, Jake). He was a fun loving cousin to Kirk (Sue) and Peter Polson and to the Davies girls, Carla (Lakey), Nancy (Joe), Denise (Klaus). Adopted into the Italian family fold by a respected mother and father in-law, Bruna (Joe), brother-in-laws and family Oscar (Rose, Joseph, Paolo/Danielle,Thomas/Chloe) and Sandy (Daniela, Michael, Kristina/Andrew).

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Howard and Arlene and brother, partner-in-crime, Randy.

We celebrate his love for the Gimblett clan; his love of the outdoors and nature; his happiness working with his hands, growing trees and plants and making beautiful parks throughout the Greater Toronto Area and Kawartha Lakes. Stephen was a talented horticulturalist who began his career with Sheridan Nurseries. From 1981- 2006, Stephen was a Supervisor for Toronto Parks and retired as a Manager of Kawartha Lakes Parks in 2011.

Stephen was larger than life. His presence filled a room and his laughter was legendary. He grew up in the Leaside area and attended Northern Secondary School. He was a gifted athlete and played hockey, lacrosse, rugby, football, and baseball. He proudly ran over 20 marathons with his two brothers, family and friends.

Stephen and Carmen moved from Toronto to his beloved hobby farm in Sunderland in 1991. He loved his flower gardens and growing his vegetables on his beautiful property. It was Stephen’s wish to be cremated and to be brought home to the place he loved.

Stephen’s legacy lives on through his family who will remember him always and love him forever.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Stephen’s life at Low and Low Funeral Home in Uxbridge (23 Main Street South, Uxbridge). A celebration of life service to honour Stephen’s memory will be held on Saturday, October 4. 2025 at 11:00 a.m. and will be immediately followed by a reception at Low and Low Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to be made to the Peterborough Health Care Center Intensive Care Unit. Please see the funeral website for donation details.
