GOLDING – Bernard Star passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Wednesday, August 13, 2025 from a long illness with heart failure. Born on June 3, 1939, the youngest child of seven, to Ralph and Fern Golding. He was a farm boy from Rockford, Ontario and won some plowing matches back in the day. He was certainly known for his strength and could throw bails of hay like there was no tomorrow.
Star was an excellent farmer and trucker, but also an excellent cook. He liked woodworking and especially framing at his companion Isabel’s framing business. Mostly, he loved socializing and entertaining his family and friends. He particularly enjoyed the motorcycle road trips with his nephews.
Star is survived by 5 children – Laurie Shebec (Bill), Lynn Snively (Ron), Vicky Stooke (Brian), Howard Golding, and David Golding; his sister Carol Batson (Don). He has many grandchildren – Michelle, Holly, Ben, Andrew, Jared, Clayton, Zac, and Katie; great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his love and companion Isabel Cunningham, and his many great friends and neighbors. Isabel’s daughter Laura Cunningham (Jake) was like another daughter to him. He adored you all.
He is predeceased by his parents Ralph and Fern Golding, as well as his siblings Norma Ribble (Orange), Bob Golding, Fred Golding (Donna), Bearnice Kirkwood (Wally), Shirley (Ball) Stratford (Bruce), Don Batson, his nephews Rick Kirkwood and Ron Kirkwood and his son-in-law Bill Shebec.
Many thanks to Dr. Miller of Jarvis for his compassionate care over the years, as well as Dr. Bard and the many staff and nurses at Norfolk General Hospital on Floors 3 and 4. Mostly, many thanks to all of his family and friends who visited him in his last days. That meant so much to Star.
