GOLDSMITH, Brenda Louise Pratt nee Goldsmith
August 24, 2025
The family of Brenda Louise Pratt is deeply saddened to announce her passing at St. Joseph’s Healthcare in Hamilton on August 24th, 2025, in her 73rd year.
Dear Mom and Best Friend of Shannon (Doug), Spike, Dnci, Boj, ‘The Beaver’, and a number of mostly-unnamed outside critters. Big Sister to Mike (Linda). Dearest Auntie (and Great-Auntie) to Kris (Shawna and wee Jacob), Katie (Madelyn and Ashlyn). Pre-deceased by her parents George (1996) and Lois (2023) Goldsmith.
After graduating from Sherwood Secondary School, Brenda started her working career at S.S. Kresge in downtown Hamilton. After her daughter Shannon was school age, Brenda returned to work in a number of retail positions before joining (the good!) Laura Secord. Brenda managed a number stores in the Burlington/Hamilton area, where she made a number of life-long friends. Brenda retired from ‘active duty’ at the Jackson Square location in 2009.
Despite her progressive vision loss, Brenda loved to cook and bake for family and friends. (4 vegetables for dinner?? – We don’t NEED 4 vegetables!) Her Christmas fruitcakes and holiday treats(the shortbread!) were sent across the country and are going to be much-missed by us all.
Brenda cared very deeply for family (both two-legged and four) and her dear friends. It was hard to get ahold of her on the phone if they were ‘catching up’.
Dear friend of Lynn Croley (and her family – Brenda’s second family) – special thanks to Patti for helping keep them close over the last while. Her Laura Secord crew Nancy, Doreen, Cory, Gloria, Lynn and their families. Dez and the late Stan Burrows and their families.
Thanks to cousins Darlene for her kindness, Gail and Colleen who visited and gave her comfort in her last days. Thanks to the caring staff at St.Josephs Healthcare, especially Drs. Lewis and Ribic, the ICU Team, the Step Down Unit on the 4th floor, and Nephrology Nurse Helen for her compassion and comfort to Shannon at the end.
Despite a number of obstacles throughout Brenda’s life she always managed to go either around them, or more often – directly through them, with grace and usually a smile.
