GRADY, Michael Patrick Grady
May 17, 1946 - February 17, 2026
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing ofΒ MichaelΒ Patrick Grady,Β surrounded by his loving family,Β in the Central Okanagan Hospice House, Kelowna, BC,Β on February 17, 2026.
Mike is survived by his wife Virginia, together 54 years; sons Paul (Pamela) ofΒ North Vancouver, Mark (Pam,Β and Drayden) of Port Moody; granddaughterΒ Gracelyn;Β brother Wayne (Pamela) of Halifax;Β and brothers-in-law, Clive (Fia) and David Cox (both of New Zealand); as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews in Nova Scotia, Ontario, and BC, and the US.Β He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph Myles Grady and Helen Virginia McNeil (of Canso, NS); brothers Jim, Ronald, Donald, and Jerry;Β and sister-in-law, Sharon.
Mike was born and raised in Halifax, NS, where he grew up in a busy home with five brothers. As a child, he spent many summers with his grandparents in Canso, NS.Β Family was always important to Mike; he was very close to all his many cousins, and even to this day, he would spend hours on the phone with them.
Mike trained as a medical laboratory technologist and, after graduation, worked at the IzaakΒ WaltonΒ KillamΒ Childrenβs Hospital in Halifax. After a few yearsΒ there, he ventured out west to Victoria, BC, though he didnβt last long there, finding it too quiet for his liking, and he soon moved to Vancouver, where he made several lifelong friendships. Again, the travel urge took himβ¦ this time down-underΒ to New Zealand.Β Mike met Virginia, his love and best friend, during his first week of work in an Auckland hospital. They were married in NZ, prior to moving back to Canada, where he worked at BC Childrenβs Hospital in Vancouver.Β His final career move took the family to Kelowna, where he spent 27 remarkable years as the manager of Valley Medical Labs, working together with a terrific team of people who together,Β became a work family.
Upon his retirement in 2008, thenΒ with a lot more spare time, he continued to work, butΒ in the kitchen, baking cakes and cookiesΒ for friends; enjoyingΒ his new free time travelling, skiing, or just snoozing in the shade of the umbrella!
Mike fought his health battles with dignity and was always grateful for the care he received from Dr. Warren, Dr. Neong, and the physicians and nursing staff at KGH.
A Memorial Service, with Kim Bergstrom officiating, will be held on FRIDAY, MARCH 6, 2026, 1:00pm, at SPRINGFIELD FUNERAL HOME, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC.
