GROLWAY, Grant Joseph – Peacefully at home on Thursday, October 8th, 2015 in his 86th year.

That you could have been the recipient of the gift of even just one of his smiles. It touched you, it changed you. Broad, genuine, infectious, full of mischief and of fun. You would feel your heart fill with joy. That you could have felt his positive, unwavering support for your hopes and your dreams. You would be convinced that the fulfillment of your dreams was a certainty. You would feel encouraged, unstoppable, like nothing could stand in your way. That you could have been the recipient of his undying and truly unconditional love. You would then surely have felt the hand of God touch your heart, your soul. Grant may have left us but his smiles, his support and his love will endure.

Born and raised in Pembroke, Ontario, Grant was the second son to Adolph and Cecelia Grolway. A natural athlete, he was a key member of the 1949/50 Little Lumber Kings ODA championship hockey team.

Later in life Grant was an avid and successful golfer, having played on innumerable inter-club teams representing Pembroke, winning more often than not. While playing sports kept him entertained, his true passion was Rita, his soul mate for 62 years. If something was important to her, it became his mission. He loved her beyond measure.

Together they were blessed with three children; Debra (Alan) Legal, David (Shelley) and Catherine (Michael) Grolway. His love for his wife and his children was fierce, his devotion to them complete and his faith in them unwavering. Their hearts are broken because their champion is gone, but they will come to realize, as all of us do that Grant’s love extends beyond the physical, and it is everlasting.

Grant will be forever missed by his grandchildren Christopher, Michael, Matthew, Courtney and Nick and his great-grandchildren Cobe, Caden, Eli, Caleb and Addison, all who feel blessed to know him, and to be loved by him. Grant was a dear brother of Ray (Claudia) and was predeceased by brothers Orval (the late Marion), Clayton (Mary) and sister Vivian (late Andy) Tytler.

Respecting Grant’s wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends at the Neville Funeral Home, 491 Isabella St., Pembroke, Ontario on Thursday October 15th after 9:30 a.m. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Pembroke on Thursday, October 15th at 11 a.m.

As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind or the Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
