GYORI, Gilbert Geza Gyori
November 4, 1933 - August 28, 2025
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Gilbert, a hardworking bricklayer, devoted farmer, and loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who departed this life on Thursday, August 28, 2025 at the age of 91.
Born in Szil, Hungary. Gilbert came to Canada in 1948. He dedicated his life to building — not just with his hands, but with his heart. As a bricklayer, he took great pride in his craft, leaving behind walls that still stand strong today — quiet, enduring testaments to his skill and dedication. As a farmer, he worked the land with patience and care, rising early and toiling long hours to provide for his family and keep the earth fruitful.
Above all else, Gilbert was a devoted father to his two children, son Vincent (Antonietta) Gyori and daughter Suzanne (William) Wilcox. Cherished grandfather to Kevin (Amanda) Gyori, Megan (Brad) Robinson, Brian Wilcox (Marie-Hélène) and Amy (Arjun) Samy. Wonderful great-grandfather to Eli, Lucas and Remington Gyori and Everett Robinson. Gilbert will be remembered by his many nieces and nephews and many extended family and friends. Predeceased by his loving wife, Mary Gyori (Nee Zajacz), parents Vince and Julianna, 5 brothers Vincent, Imre, Frank, Joseph and William and 4 sisters Mary, Gizela, Margaret and Elsie.
He will be remembered for his unwavering work ethic and the quiet love he showed through every calloused hand and early morning spent in the fields or on the job. Those who knew him will never forget his deep sense of responsibility, his humor, his gift of gab and the pride he took in a job well done.
A sincere and heartfelt thanks goes out to the wonderful staff at Riverview Gardens Nursing Home and Palliative Unit at Chatham-Kent Health Alliance. Your caring and kindness are greatly appreciated.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to an organization of your choice.
