HAINES, Mary Ellen Haines
Passed away peacefully on Thursday March 5th, 2026, at Delmanor Elgin Mills – Memory Plus after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Mary was in her 90th year.

Mary was predeceased by her loving husband Len and oldest daughter Lynne. Mary leaves behind her youngest daughter Leigh and her husband Dan and Lynne’s husband Nazim. As well, Mary was a loving and involved Granny to 6 amazing grandchildren: Lauren, Lucas, Mathias, Sam, Maya, and Maden. Mary also leaves behind her loving sister Anne Dewar, along with many nieces and nephews and many more great-nieces and great-nephews.

Mary was the first in her family to attend university and enjoyed a long and distinguished career as an elementary school teacher with the Toronto Board of Education starting in 1958 until she retired in 1992.

Mary was a very charitable person who never forgot her humble beginnings. She willingly donated her time and resources to many charities. She was an Elder and Choir Member at Fallingbrook Presbyterian Church and was heavily involved with all of the church’s special events like the Christmas Bazaar and the Robbie Burns Supper. She also spent countless hours in her retirement years volunteering at the Bluffs Food Bank every week and completing countless income tax returns for anyone who needed help.

Mary had a passion for travel and cruising was her favourite way to travel. She couldn’t get enough of the trivia competitions on board the ship and continually impressed her grandchildren with all of the prizes that she won.

Mary always had a smile for anyone; friend or stranger and even in her declining years, her bright smile never faded.

Mary’s family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff and caregivers at Delmanor Elgin Mills – Memory Plus. Their kindness, thoughtfulness and love was felt daily by Mary and she truly enjoyed her time there.
