HARTFORD, Harold Leo Hartford
HARTFORD, Harold Leo –
(July 16, 1928 – November 17, 2023)
It is with enormous sadness that we announce the passing of Harold Leo Hartford.
Affectionately known as Leo, by those who had the pleasure of knowing him, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend to many.
If you met Leo, you were greeted by an infectious smile, a firm handshake or hearty hug and a caring spirit.
The eldest of 13, Leo was born with an unparalleled work ethic and a ‘can-do’ attitude. Quit was never in his vocabulary.
Leo married the love of his life, Elizabeth (Betty) Grace Hartford (Died January 2023) and with her by his side, he built homes, businesses and a close-knit family.
A self-taught tradesman, there was nothing that Leo couldn’t build, fix or at least attempt to build and fix. He brought this tenacious spirit to the card table.
Never willing to let the other team win, he would frequently ‘go to the moon’ on a less-than-perfect hand, and somehow make it work.
Leo was a loving man with a big heart whose door was always open. He and Betty opened their home to family and friends alike. They volunteered with Meals on Wheels, the Habitat for Humanity and sponsored new Canadian families.
His death leaves a hole in our hearts and our family that can never be filled and he will be sorely missed. But our grief is stayed in the knowledge that Betty and Leo are reunited and enjoying each other’s company or trouncing each other in cards.
Thank you for the memories. We love you.
Memorial Donations in Leo’s name can be made to Habitat for Humanity or the Belleville Hospital Foundation.
A service will be held at Stones Cemetery, Trent Hills on November 30th at 1:30 p.m. Followed by a Celebration of Life at St.Paul’s United Church, 60 Main St, Warkworth from 2-4 p.m.
