GULKO, Harris David –
October 30, 1927 – November 9, 2023
With deep sorrow we announce the passing of Harris Gulko in Dundas, Ontario.
Survived by his children, Ruz Gulko, Evelyn Moscovitch, Miriam and Ken O’Donnell, Judi Gulko, Sharon Gulko and Leonard Cohen; grandchildren, Bess, Josh and Lauren, Jordan, Arielle and Anthony, Jason, Mo, Noa, Zach and Sierra, Hannah and Dan, Lilah Ray, and Rebecca; and great-grandchildren, Archer, Westley, Elizah, Jesse and Veronica.
Predeceased by his wife, Blanche; partners, Rebecca Cristall and Evelyn Numerow. Born in Toronto, when asked what he wanted to grow up to be, he answered, “A farmer in Palestine.”
He started his career at Young Judea (cofounding Camp Shalom) and United Jewish Appeal. For decades, he served in leadership positions for the Jewish National Fund in Canada and Israel.
He spearheaded the Canada Park and the Rebuilders of Jerusalem projects, and raised millions of dollars towards the development of Israel. He later served as the Director of Development for Ezrat Nashim Hospital.
In his retirement Harris took up painting and enjoyed travel. He passed away peacefully, accompanied by his daughters, Miriam and Judi. He lived life on his own terms until the very end. The Funeral will be held on Sunday, November 12th at 10 a.m. at the Stanley Sobel Cemetery, 1400 Snake Rd., Burlington, ON.
