HEINS, Gordon Heins

With heavy hearts, the family of Gordon Frank Charles Heins announce his sudden passing on November 7, 2025 in Espanola, Ontario at the age of 68. He was the son of the late Milly and Garnet Heins. Gord was born and raised in Espanola and after graduating from Espanola High School worked at EB Eddy/Domtar until his retirement in 2014.

Gord’s second home was the camp on Panage. First with his parents, brother and sisters, then their families and eventually his boys and their families; so many unforgettable memories were made. Most of which involved family, great friends, tools, rods, guns, a crib board, boats, snowmachines and/or quads. One of Gord’s favourite was late night cruises on the calm waters of the lake where he captured some of the most breathtaking sunset pictures.

Gord was involved with many clubs over the years including North Shore Search and Rescue, the Espanola Handgun Club and Espanola Game and Fish. But his favourite was his “coffee crew” club where every morning him and his childhood friends would meet for coffee at the garage to discuss ways to solve world problems.

Loving father to Jason (Stacey) and Kurtis (Lyette) and his inherited daughter Kayla (Kyle). He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren Cole (Brooke), Abbie, Ella, Kailyn, Hailey (Dakoda), Danica, Ellie, Finn and his special great grandchildren Daxon, Myles and Bennett. Dear fur Poppa to Molly, Moose, Aussie and Zahra. Dear brother to Pat Bernatchez (Moe), Cindy Bergeron (Guy) and brother in law to Carolyn. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Gord was predeceased by his loving parents Milly (Shroeder) and Garnet Heins, brother Jack Heins and sister Carol Linton (Bob).

True gems are rare and we were lucky enough to know one. Gord always listened with no judgment, supported with no hesitation and always showed up whenever needed without ever asking for anything in return. His love for his family and friends was constant and dependable. He had a great laugh, a wicked whistle, the best Santa look and sensational dog whisperer skills. He was a big man and we all know why, how else could he house the biggest heart there ever was? He was a wonderful Poppa to his grandkids and fur buddies and the best father who went above and beyond to do everything and anything for his 2 boys and what an amazing job he did. Even though his life was cut way too short, his presence will remain forever in every story told, every lesson remembered and every beautiful sunset.

There will be a celebration of life on Sunday November 30th from 3 to 7pm at the Elks hall in Espanola. Let’s celebrate Gord’s life the way he would have wanted. Join us for some stories, laughter, memories and cheers. Food will be provided by Good Enuf to Eat.
