HITSCHERICH, Helmut Hitscherich
November 26, 1936 - March 23, 2026
Passed away at Lakeview Manor, Beaverton on Monday March 23, 2026 at the age of 89 years. Husband of the late Joyce (nee Kedie). Loved and remembered by his step-children Lynn Taylor (Jerry), Barry Judges (late Nan) and Pamela Carr (Robert) and by grandchildren Paul, Lee, Jamie, Kim, Ann, Daniel and Jennifer.
Helmut Hitscherich’s journey began in 1954 arriving at Toronto’s Union Station from Germany as a young 18 year old armed with an engineering trade behind him. It was here where his sponsor met him and travelled to Holland Marsh to work the fields.
Meeting my mother, the love of his life, both with a passion for dogs, they ran a successful boarding kennel breeding German Shepherds, running obedience classes and with Helmut training dogs for the Ontario Provincial Police. They flourished in this endeavor. Their other passion was travel, where together they saw the world.
As busy as he was, Helmut always found the time to be a wonderful grandpa to his grandchildren. When his beloved wife Joyce passed away, Helmut found a new avenue to pursue which ultimately led to his second love; horses and trail riding. He was an active member of the OTR Association where he met like minded people who quickly became life-long friends and trail riders. He held many riding events from his home where friends from both Canada and the USA were always in attendance. He always said “my house, my rules” which meant no rules, just fun and companionship. With his travel bug always in his mind, Helmut travelled all over Canada and the States with his trusted steed Smokey.
Helmut was always there to offer a helping hand to anyone in need and luckily for him, there was always someone in need. He enjoyed life to the fullest and he will be sorely missed by anyone who had the pleasure of meeting him. Helmut, rest in peace with your first love; Joyce.
