HILL, Gary Hill

After a courageous battle with cancer, Gary passed away at his home on October 24, 2025, at the age of 78.

Beloved husband of Susan, to whom he was married to for 56 years, but was the love of his life for 61 years. Loving father of Rob and Melissa Butterfield (Darren). Cherished Papa of Taylor (Tom) and Dylan. Dear brother of Jimmy (Jennie). Gary will be missed by many family and friends and especially by his devoted fur-baby, Piper.

Predeceased by his parents Ruth and Jim and his brother Rob.

Gary started his working career at the Provincial Paper Mill in Thorold, where he was also proudly served as a volunteer firefighter. Later, he furthered his career at OPG for over 25 years.

A true Blue Jays fan, Gary rarely missed a game and could often be found cheering them on. He had a wonderful sense of humour that could light up a room and was known as a joker, who could make anyone smile.

Family was the centre of his life. He took great pride in caring for his loved ones, whether he was cooking a favourite meal or sharing a laugh.

Special thanks to Dr. Shim, Dr. El Mallah, Dr. Sisson, Dr. Shattner, Lisa, and the rest of his oncology and caregiving team, who wonderfully supported Gary over the past six years.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025 from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Armstrong Funeral Home (124 King St. E., Oshawa). A Memorial Service will follow in the Chapel at 12 p.m.
