HOEKSTRA, Dirk Pieter Hoekstra

A resident of Chatham, Dirk Hoekstra  passed away at the Chatham-Kent Hospice, surrounded by family, on Saturday, December 6, 2025 at the age of 75.

Born in Chatham, Dirk was the son of the late Thoss and Eertsche “Esther” (née Hummel) Hoekstra.

Beloved husband of  36 years to Ester Fernandes – Hoekstra.

Cherished father to Melissa Hoekstra, Tomas Hoekstra, Dirk Hoekstra Jr. (Kelly), and Rebecca Hoekstra. Step-father to Marcio Fernandes (Krystal) and Susan Miller (John).

Grandfather to 7 grandchildren and 4 step-grandchildren. Great-grandfather to 2 great-grandchildren and 2 step-great-grandchildren.

Brother to the late Regina Hoekstra (Gerald), the late Sjoukina Bailes (Frank), Audrey VanderWeide (Al), and Liz Colby (Bill).

Predeceased by nephews James VanderWeide and Joseph Colby.

He will be missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.

Dirk worked for Eaton Yale-Oxford Motors for 36 years. After retiring he did occasional work in the trades. He was a lifetime member of the Kent Clover Leaf Conservation Club. He enjoyed target shooting and loved moose hunting trips with his brothers-in-law and friends. He especially enjoyed seclusion with God and nature.

Family to receive friends at the funeral home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Tuesday, December 9, 2025 from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Vigil Prayers will be held at 6:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will take place at Blessed Sacrament Parish, 145 Victoria Ave, Chatham on Wednesday, December 10, 2025 at 10:00 am. Burial to follow in Maple Leaf Cemetery.

Donations made in memory of Dirk to the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation or a Mass left with Blessed Sacrament Parish would be appreciated by the family.
