HOLMES, Barbara Ann Holmes

It is with profound sadness and heartfelt love that the family of Barbara Ann Holmes (nΓ©e Niefer) announce her peaceful passing on May 12, 2026, at the age of 95. Surrounded by love, Barbara passed gently with her best friend and devoted daughter, Linda, by her bedside. Barbara was predeceased by her beloved husband, Kenneth Charles Holmes; her dearly loved son, James Clifton Holmes; and her faithful companion, Rowdy dog.

She was also predeceased by her brothers, Mike Niefer and Bobby Durance. She leaves behind a loving family who will forever treasure her memory: her daughter Linda and son-in-law William Lyford; daughter-in-law Deborah Holmes (Jim); and her brother Donald Durance of Sarnia. Barbara was a proud and devoted grandmother to David (Monica) Lyford, Shelley (Bryan) Crnic, Lauri (Jason) Lyford, Lisa (John) Gawdunyk, Brett (Janelle) Holmes, Zach (Amy) Holmes, Graham Holmes, Tiffany (Jay) White, and Angela (Cailey) Holmes. She was also lovingly survived by 28 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her tremendous joy and pride.

Barbara dedicated many years of service to A&P, and she also gave generously of her time as a dedicated volunteer in the gift shop at St. Joseph’s Hospital, now Bluewater Health, faithfully volunteering for over 20 years. Her heart always belonged to Howernvale- boating, afternoons at the beach, snowmobiling adventures, and peaceful moments beside her beloved pond. A woman of deep faith, Barbara will be remembered for her abiding strength, adventurous spirit, and deep love for her family and friends.

Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched and the countless memories shared by those who loved her. The family is deeply thankful for the compassionate care provided by the Bluewater Health Emergency Department, especially Dr. Jim Grochowski, as well as the staff on Telemetry and Dr. Brian Davies and nurse Phillip. Your kindness, compassion, and wonderful care during Barbara’s final days will never be forgotten.

Forever loved, forever remembered. An open house celebration of Barbara’s life will be held at Smith Family Centre, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. A private graveside will be held at Lakeview Cemetery. To honour her legacy as a volunteer, sympathy may be expressed through donations to Bluewater Health Foundation (cheques only at the funeral home please).
