HOPKIN, Sarah Elizabeth Hopkin
September 6, 1972 - March 8, 2026It is with profound sadness that the family of Sarah Elizabeth Hopkin announce her passing after a long illness at the age of 53 on Monday, March 8th, 2026, at Health Sciences North in Sudbury.
For many years Sarah was the sunshine to all who met her while walking or scootering along Calford Street, camping on Lake Manitou, horse back riding, swimming at the YMCA, attending Brownies, or Girl Guides. Sarah looked forward to her regular attendance at ”Our Friendship Centre” where she and Nicole would regularly make many, many, many crafts to take home. The birthdays, excursions and dances at “Our Friendship Centre” were some of her favorite events. She always had a radiant smile through which she left a lasting memory for all who knew her.
Sarah lived her fifty-three years with her best friends, caregivers, event organizers but most of all her parents who shared her unconditional love. She never knew a fear of missing out, was always ready to attend or try any activities, many which were thought unachievable for her, like skating, and skiing. Sarah never let her disability define her; she embraced every challenge with great gusto. Outliving many who said she won’t or can’t, she proved that she would and could. Learning to walk and talk at an early age, for those who couldn’t understand her accent, Sarah used her Bliss Board to translate until they learned the accent. She didn’t let poor eyesight hold her back when choosing boyfriends, which she had many.
Sarah shared her sunshine with so many people it is hard to name them all. The ones closet to her will forever have a place in their hearts and minds which will forever cherish her love and memories. She will be sadly missed and forever loved by her mother Linda Hopkin (nee Lapointe), as well as many family and friends. Predeceased by her father Brian Hopkin, brother Matthew, grand parents Anne & Laume Lapointe, and Shirley & Peter Sabourin.
