HORRILL, Gary Richard Horrill

HORRILL, Gary Richard Horrill

Our hearts are broken at the passing of Gary Richard Horrill on March 3, 2026. Gary was born in Ancaster, Ontario, the son of Stan and Violet Horrill, and passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital with his loving wife Theresa (Lawrence) by his side.

Gary was a devoted father to Shannon, Erin, Mary Pat (Justin Hill), Laura Moeller (Steve Schenk), and Emily (Eli Haines). His greatest title, however, was Grandpa to his nine grandchildren, a role he took very seriously — whether that meant cheering them on, telling stories, or sneaking them a treat when their parents weren’t looking.

Gary will be lovingly remembered by his sister Susan (Ron Samson) and their children Leah and Peter, his brother Peter Horrill, and his brother from another mother, Chuck Billingsley, along with many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Bill (2026) and his first wife, Susan (Hickey) (2005).

Gary spent many years working as a fire equipment salesman, a job that suited him perfectly. He had the gift of conversation, could make a friend anywhere, and never left a room without someone laughing. He believed a handshake still meant something and that people should be treated with honesty and respect.

Gary loved baseball, especially the Toronto Blue Jays, and could often be found watching a game, discussing the lineup like a professional manager, or enjoying the game with family and friends — sometimes with a Jameson’s or two.

Some of Gary’s happiest moments were spent travelling with Theresa, whether it was a big trip or simply getting away to the trailer. Their partnership was the centre of his life.

Gary was truly salt of the earth, a quality well known to both the Horrill and Lawrence families. He was hardworking, loyal, quick with a joke, and always ready to lend a hand.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but the stories, laughter, and memories he leaves behind will live on.

A Celebration of Gary’s Life will be held at a later date. Cremation has taken place. A  celebration of his life will be held at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Huntington Society of Canada would be appreciated by the family.
