upon graduating from Broadview High School in 1958, Ruth trained as a Registered Nurse before entering the Ministry in 1962. She labored in Saskatchewan, West Africa, Germany, Switzerland and Hungary. She married Jeno Horvath of Budapest, Hungary in 1975 and returned to nursing there. Ruth and Jeno moved to Canada in 1985 and resided in Burnaby BC. She continued nursing there until her retirement.
Ruth was predeceased by her parents, John and Mary Szakacs; husband, Jeno Horvath; husband, Don Shenton; sister, Joyce Szakacs; sister in-law, Myrtle Szakacs and brother in-law, Joe Howden.
Ruth is survived by her sister, Alice Howden and brother, David (Jan) Szakacs, several generations of nieces, nephews and cousins as well as friends from mainland BC and across the prairies. She always spoke very fondly of her relatives, friends and acquaintances she left behind in Europe and West Africa.
Ruth’s funeral service will be held at First Memorial Funeral Home (Boal Chapel) in North Vancouver on Wednesday, November 5, 2025 at 10am.
