HOSKIN, Howard Stanley Hoskin
August 28, 1946 - October 27, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Howard Stanley Hoskin of South River, Ontario. A devoted father, passionate outdoorsman, and lover of bluegrass music.
Howard was the proud father of three sons: Howard (Tess), David (Margaret), and Lonny (Cory). He was the proud grandfather of David, Dakota, Hunter, Ethan, Cole and Aaron and the proud great grandfather of Aiyanna. He is survived by his brothers John (Bett) and Greg (Harriet). Howard is predeceased by his parents Bill and Leslie.
His family carries forward his legacy of strength, kindness, and a deep appreciation for nature. He found his greatest joy in the simple pleasures of life—spending crisp autumn mornings in the woods, sharing stories around a campfire, and listening to his favorite music. He was also an avid sports fan – especially hockey, football and baseball.
Howard was born and raised in and around Cayuga. He ran a Sears Order Outlet as a family business and worked at Stelco in Hamilton for many years until his retirement. He moved to South River to live his dream of having a property where he could enjoy hunting and being in nature.
Howard was a friend to many. Whether he was lending a hand, or offering a word of wisdom, he left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Howard may consider a charity involved with nature conservation or a charity of their choice.
A celebration of Howard’s life will be held at a later date.
