HUSSEY, Zosia Hussey

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Zosia Hussey on February 20, 2026, at the age of 84, surrounded by her family.

Born and raised on the family farm in Newtonville, Ontario, Zosia (or, as everyone knew her, Zosh) enjoyed life with her parents, Anna and Dymitro, and her brother, Zory. She attended a local public school and high school in Port Hope. She worked on the farm and, as a teenager, on local tobacco farms in the area.

In 1963, she was hired as a secretary by General Motors, where she met her future husband, Wayne. In 1965, they wed and, in 1967, moved into their house in Oshawa, a home she loved and lived in for the rest of her life. In 1974, they built a cottage on Drag Lake in Haliburton and enjoyed hosting family and friends.

Zosia was a devoted wife to Wayne for 60 years, an incredibly dedicated and amazing mother who loved her son, Jimmy, her daughter, Kim and her son-in-law, Scott. She was a doting and very proud grandmother of Maddie, Kirstie and Sean. There was rarely a sports game or school event that she missed to cheer them on. She loved celebrating every family milestone, big or small, and had a way of making everyone feel special. Even the family pets felt her love when she always arrived with treats for them.

Zosia worked in retail (Hallmark and No Frills) and used her creativity and talent to make beautiful handmade toys and decorations in her craft business and for gifts. Her cooking and baking skills were legendary; perogies, cabbage rolls and shish kabobs will never taste as good.

Zosia will be missed by her husband, children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and the many friends she loved. Many have said she was like a second Mom to them, a tribute to her generosity and kindness. She leaves behind a legacy of stories, lessons, values, and love. She will be dearly missed and always in our hearts.

The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses at Lakeridge Health Oshawa for their care and compassion.

As per Zosia’s wishes, a small, private graveside ceremony will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations made in her honour to SickKids Hospital in Toronto would be greatly appreciated at https://www.sickkids.ca/en/support-sickkids/donate/.
