HYDE , Myrtle Joy Spurrell Hyde
February 25, 1929 - August 14, 2025
Myrtle ‘Joy’ Spurrell (nee Hyde) passed away peacefully into the presence of her Lord and Savior on August 14, 2025, at the age of 96, with family by her side. Joy was a loving wife for 71 years to the late Wesley Victor Spurrell, deceased in 2020.
She is the cherished mother of daughters Joanne (Robin Inkster) and Mary-Lynn (Kelvin Honsinger). Devoted grandmother of Tyler Inkster (Kristen), Nathan Inkster (Renée), Kevin Inkster (Erin), Lauren Inkster, Meredith Vacca (Floriano), Rebecca Geisler (Justin), and Jordan Honsinger (Samantha). Beloved Gigi to 12 great-grandchildren.
Joy was born February 25, 1929 in Ottawa, Ontario, forever grateful for the loving family that chose her as their own. Predeceased by her parents Harvey and Emma Hyde, and by her five siblings, brothers Ernie (Dot), Harvey (Vena), Travis (Doris), and sisters Ruth Macdonald, and Eileen (Jack) Burbidge. Joy will also be missed by many nieces and nephews.
Over her lifetime, Joy was actively involved in her local church. She was gifted with a beautiful singing voice and used this talent in solo work and in leading choirs. She also served in leadership in various women’s groups and owned and managed a successful retail business in London, Ontario for many years. Her most valued roles, she would say, centered in her home where she was a dedicated wife and mother. Home was always a place of hospitality where guests were treated generously.
The family wishes to thank the excellent staff at Extendicare Burloak Long-Term Care Home (Burlington, Ontario) for the compassionate care she received over the last 18 months. Prior to this, Joy appreciated the kindness of staff and the warm friendships she made during 7 years residence at Seasons Retirement Home in Milton, Ontario.
In celebration of Joy’s life we will have a private family service and interment. Arrangements have been entrusted to SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, Burlington, Ontario (905) 632-3333 www.smithsfh.com.
